Drs. Rick Rubin, Brett Dunnill, and Omar Hasham understand the difficulty some adults and older teenagers have with their crooked teeth. It doesn't help that people this age also usually want to have a beautiful smile but simultaneously want to avoid getting braces. This common desire is why the dentists at Williamsburg Family Dentistry provide their patients with Invisalign treatment at their Williamsburg, VA, office!

Invisalign Treatment

Invisalign treatment consists of clear aligner trays made of plastic that are worn by patients. The custom-made aligners are made using 3-D computer imaging technology. The plastic aligners are also transparent and shift the teeth into place by applying pressure on each of them until they are straight or in the desired position.

Each set of trays needs to be worn for at least 22 hours a day. You can remove them to brush and floss your teeth, to eat or drink, and to attend a special event, but remember just that the longer they are not worn, the longer the treatment will be delayed

The treatment can last approximately 9 - 15 months, while the average number of trays you may use may be around 18 - 30. How long your treatment will take depends on your initial examination and the treatment plan you and your Williamsburg dentist have agreed upon.

During Invisalign treatment, you will need to see your doctor once every six weeks. He will want to make sure that your teeth are being straightened according to the plan and will assess if any changes need to be made according to your progress.

If you're a teenager or adult who needs their teeth straightened but would like to avoid traditional metal braces, then you need to contact one of your Williamsburg, VA, dentists, Dr. Ricky Rubin, Dr. Brett Dunnill and Dr. Omar Hasham. They will help determine if you are a good candidate for Invisalign treatment and get you started on the right path. Just call them at (757) 345-5500 to make an appointment today!

Discover how this completely clear orthodontic system is able to straighten adult smiles for good.

It’s never too late to get a straight smile, even as an adult. In fact, more and more adults are turning to our Williamsburg, VA, dentists Dr. Ricky Rubin, Dr. Brett Dunnill and Dr. Omar Hasham to find out whether or not braces could get them the beautifully straight smiles they want. Dealing with gaps between teeth? Crowding? Then you’ve come to the right place. Find out how this unique and completely clear orthodontic system could provide you with the results you need and the discreet treatment you want.

We understand that most teens and adults don’t want to wear braces; however, it’s a fact that straight teeth are also healthier teeth. After all, misaligned smiles can lead to cavities, gum disease and dental damage. This is why it’s important to fix your smile, no matter your age. Of course, our Williamsburg, VA, family dentist knows that one of the most important factors for getting orthodontic treatment later in life is that it’s not immediately obvious to the whole world. This is where Invisalign comes in.

Invisalign employs a series of custom-crafted, completely clear aligners that fit tightly against the teeth. Each aligner, which looks similar to a mouthguard, is unique to the patient who’s wearing them to help them achieve the results they want. In order to do this we will need to determine your goals for treatment and from there use special computer software that will help us determine which teeth need to move and precisely how much they need to move in order to give you that perfectly straight smile.

Once each tooth movement is accounted for, this information is sent to an Invisalign-approved dental lab, which will create the aligners to our exact measurements and specifications. The aligners fit tightly across the upper and/or lower teeth and provide the proper amount of force needed to safely and gradually move teeth into the proper and final position. This won’t happen all at once but as you continue to replace your aligners every two weeks you will start to see subtle shifts and movements in your smile.

The average length of treatment for adults is about one year, which is much shorter than those who get traditional braces; however, the length of treatment for teens who get Invisalign is comparable to those who get traditional braces (about 18-24 months).

If you are an older teen or adult living in Williamsburg, VA, who has been dreaming of getting a straighter smile then it’s time to make that dream a reality. Call Williamsburg Family Dentistry today to schedule an orthodontic consultation with us.

Are you ready to find out more about getting Invisalign in Williamsburg?

Not everyone revels in the idea of having to wear metal brackets and wires all over their teeth just to fix gaps or crowding. Of course, if you want a straight smile you will have to undergo orthodontic treatment in order to get your dream smile. Fortunately, our Williamsburg, VA, family dentists, Dr. Ricky Rubin and Dr. Brett Dunnill, make it possible to get the smile you want with an almost invisible treatment option called Invisalign.

How Invisalign Works

Each aligner that is created for you is designed to fit your smile and your smile alone. Made from a nearly invisible thermoplastic, these Invisalign aligners will help to slowly shift your teeth into the ideal position to fix everything from spacing and crowding issues to overbites and underbites. Each set of aligners is worn for about two weeks at a time and then replaced with the next set of aligners in your treatment plan.

In order for these aligners to do their job, this means that you will need to wear them as often as possible. While you can remove them prior to eating or drinking, as well as before your oral care routine, you will want to wear them the rest of the time to ensure that you get the results you want within a reasonable length of time. When you come in for a consultation, our Williamsburg dentist will be able to provide you with information about how long it will possibly take to get your straighter smile.

Good Candidates for Invisalign

If you are an older teen or adult who is looking to straighten your smile without having to wear metal braces, then chances are pretty good that Invisalign could be the right treatment for you. It’s time to schedule a consultation with us if you are looking to fix any of these issues:

  • Gaps between teeth
  • Crowding or minor overlapping
  • Overbites
  • Underbites
  • Crossbites
  • Open bites

Keep in mind, children and early teens aren’t ideal candidates for this orthodontic treatment because their teeth are still growing, which can affect how the aligners will fit over their teeth. We will want to ensure that your teen’s smile has finished growing before we can recommend getting Invisalign.

Does Invisalign sound like the right treatment option for you? Want to find out if you are the perfect candidate? Then it’s time you called Williamsburg Family Dentistry in Williamsburg, VA, to book your initial consultation with us. Let’s talk about Invisalign!

Invisalign treatment has given over three million people worldwide beautiful, straight smiles. Given its popularity, many people have heard of Invisalign and know that it is the clear alternative to braces. But how does Invisalign work? Your Williamsburg, VA dentist at Williamsburg Family Dentistry can help you understand this revolutionary orthodontic treatment.Invisalign

What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a series of clear aligner trays worn in succession until treatment is completed. The process normally takes less than two years. The number of trays used usually varies from 10 to 30, depending on the patient and the severity of their treatment. Most patients switch their current tray for the next in the series every two weeks. Made from a special thermoplastic designed for Invisalign, the aligner trays are made to be comfortable. You may remove the trays to eat and brush, meaning no special diets or oral hygiene routines are necessary.

What happens during Invisalign Treatment?
Similar to traditional braces, the treatment uses controlled force placed on your teeth to move them into their desired positions. Small, tooth-colored bumps adhered to your teeth called attachments aid in the correct distribution of pressure and ensure pinpoint accuracy in moving your teeth. With each new tray, the force used to move the teeth shifts, allowing the teeth to move slowly and accurately throughout treatment.

Am I a candidate for Invisalign?
Specialists recommend Invisalign for teens and adults to straighten teeth and correct bite issues. Orthodontic treatment is not suitable for children under 12 as their teeth are still growing. Invisalign is suitable for most orthodontic treatments but more aggressive treatment, like traditional braces may be required in some cases. Additionally, good candidates for Invisalign have great at-home oral hygiene routines. It is crucial to treatment to keep your teeth and aligner trays clean and healthy.

For more information on the Invisalign treatment, please contact Dr. Ricky J. Rubin, D.M.D., M.P.A. and Dr. Brett C. Dunnill, D.D.S. at Williamsburg Family Dental in Williamsburg, VA. Call 757-345-5500 to schedule your consultation for Invisalign today!

The popular media flashes pictures of celebrities with perfect smiles--white and even as can be. Don't think that everyone is born with those straight smiles. Cosmetic dentistry helps thousands of people each year achieve the healthy, attractive set of teeth they've always Invisalign desired.

At Williamsburg Family Dentistry, doctors Ricky Rubin and Brett C. Dunnill offer a wide range of preventive, restorative and cosmetic dental services, including the popular Invisalign clear aligners. Invisalign provides teens and adults with mild to moderate orthodontic issues a fast, comfortable and practically invisible method of getting attractive, functional smiles without the discomfort or embarrassment of wearing traditional braces.

Instead of metal brackets and wires, Invisalign features BPA-free, clear aligners which resemble professional teeth whitening trays. Custom-made to fit tightly over top and bottom teeth, the aligners gently move teeth into better positions, treating conditions such as:

  • tooth rotation
  • gaps
  • crowding
  • over bite
  • under bite
  • open bite
  • cross bite

Could Invisalign Work for You?

Invisalign providers such as Dr.sRubin and Dunnill carefully evaluate their orthodontic patients. Using digital, 3-D scans, the dentist assesses teeth and gums for bite, gaps and other problems that compromise smile aesthetics, function and health. If appropriate, he formulates a treatment plan and sends his instructions to the Invisalign lab.

Typically, patients wear several sets of aligners over the course of their treatments. Aligners stay in place 20 to 22 hours per day. Treatments average 12 months but may last anywhere from 9 to 18 months--shorter times than correction with metal braces. Patients visit Williamsburg Family Dentistry every 4 to 6 weeks to get new aligners and to receive a quick progress check.

Caring for Aligners

Aligners move teeth gently and comfortably by fractions of an inch at a time. Patients report little to no discomfort with movement and enjoy the aligners' unobtrusive appearance. Additionally, individuals remove aligners to eat, brush and floss and for special occasions such as weddings, proms and job interviews. While patients who wear wire and bracket braces restrict their diets (no hard or sticky foods), Invisalign patients eat all the healthy foods they enjoy.

One Caution

Even if a patient is well-qualified to wear Invisalign appliances, the treatment goes awry when he or she does not wear the aligners for the right amount of time each day. According to the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, compliance is paramount to success. To encourage this, Williamsburg, VA dentists arrange for colored tabs built into the aligners. Wear patterns on the tabs tell patients and dentists if the aligners are worn according to the treatment plan.
