How Does Invisalign Work?

Discover how this completely clear orthodontic system is able to straighten adult smiles for good.

Invisalign

It’s never too late to get a straight smile, even as an adult. In fact, more and more adults are turning to our Williamsburg, VA, dentists Dr. Ricky Rubin, Dr. Brett Dunnill and Dr. Omar Hasham to find out whether or not braces could get them the beautifully straight smiles they want. Dealing with gaps between teeth? Crowding? Then you’ve come to the right place. Find out how this unique and completely clear orthodontic system could provide you with the results you need and the discreet treatment you want.

We understand that most teens and adults don’t want to wear braces; however, it’s a fact that straight teeth are also healthier teeth. After all, misaligned smiles can lead to cavities, gum disease and dental damage. This is why it’s important to fix your smile, no matter your age. Of course, our Williamsburg, VA, family dentist knows that one of the most important factors for getting orthodontic treatment later in life is that it’s not immediately obvious to the whole world. This is where Invisalign comes in.

Invisalign employs a series of custom-crafted, completely clear aligners that fit tightly against the teeth. Each aligner, which looks similar to a mouthguard, is unique to the patient who’s wearing them to help them achieve the results they want. In order to do this we will need to determine your goals for treatment and from there use special computer software that will help us determine which teeth need to move and precisely how much they need to move in order to give you that perfectly straight smile.

Once each tooth movement is accounted for, this information is sent to an Invisalign-approved dental lab, which will create the aligners to our exact measurements and specifications. The aligners fit tightly across the upper and/or lower teeth and provide the proper amount of force needed to safely and gradually move teeth into the proper and final position. This won’t happen all at once but as you continue to replace your aligners every two weeks you will start to see subtle shifts and movements in your smile.

The average length of treatment for adults is about one year, which is much shorter than those who get traditional braces; however, the length of treatment for teens who get Invisalign is comparable to those who get traditional braces (about 18-24 months).

If you are an older teen or adult living in Williamsburg, VA, who has been dreaming of getting a straighter smile then it’s time to make that dream a reality. Call Williamsburg Family Dentistry today to schedule an orthodontic consultation with us.
